Inside the printing press
Turn the press around, follow the bed and pause the screw at the moment of pressure. Separate the motion of the turning spindle from the platen that presses the paper.

Screw. Rotation through the fixed crosshead lowers or raises the screw. Its pitch links rotation to vertical travel.

How the mechanism works
A long lever turns the screw through a fixed nut. The screw advances and pushes a platen against paper laid over the inked type. Reversing the turn raises the platen so the bed can be withdrawn. The attached model isolates this pressure mechanism. It is a schematic teaching model, not a measured reconstruction of Gutenberg’s lost press.
A press does not print by itself
Type preparation, composition, inking, paper handling and drying were separate skilled operations. A mechanism animation can explain force and movement without reproducing the complete work of a printing shop. The schematic omits the operator and paper-holding frames.

Type bed. The bed carries type and paper under the platen. The model omits the actual inking and sheet-removal operations.

The bed carries paper over inked type. Turning the screw lowers the platen. Pressure transfers ink to the sheet; ink transfer is not simulated. Reverse the screw to release pressure, then withdraw the bed. A real printer removes the sheet and prepares another impression.
